Beginning of the End?

The 'Report on Jobs', by the Recruitment and Employment federation and KPMG, has showed an increase in demand for permanent staff for the first time since May 2008.

The demand for temporary staff has also risen for the second month running in October and the number of job placements also rose for the third month in a row.

This mirrors what we ourselves have seen with our clients and whilst the recession may not be at an end, are we seeing the beginning of the end?

One in three sick days is a Monday

More than a third of all sick leave is taken on a Monday, confirming Mondays as the day of most sickness absence from the workplace, according to new research by consulting firm Mercer. January is by far the month with the highest level of sickness absence, with sick leave averaging half a day per person for the month.

During the whole of 2008, 13 of the 20 most popular days for sickness absence occurred in January, and six of these were taken between the 2nd and 9th of January.

Additionally the CIPD, in its People Management publication, have reported on an increase trend in SME's outsourcing HR and stating it is no longer the domain of large corporates. The CIPD state SME's outsource HR for compliance, cost efficiency and to achive strategic objectives.
